The Lottery by Shirley Jackson is a story about a old village that every year has a lottery to see who in the village will be stoned to death. This story relates to issues in the US and to everyday life in the US. 1.Are there any American traditions that share similarities with the lottery tradition in the village? Please provide a link to an article that illustrates the tradition you choose to discuss. 2. When have you made an important choice to break away or not break away from a strong cultural tradition you shared with a family, friend, or culture? 1.Hear in the great United States of America we have a gun issue. It seems like every time you turn on the news now and days all you see is stories of mass shootings and random acts of gun violence throughout the country. The problem starts with the second amendment of the Constitution, which states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The problem with the amendment is the wording. Its no secret the United States does not need militias, thanks to the national guard, the multiple police departments, and the US Army I feel pretty safe in my everyday life. So does that mean that because the US is no longer in need of militia the right to bear arms shouldn't exist, no of course not, I have a right to protect my household and my family, but I do not need a military grade riffle to protect myself from a home intruder a simple handgun would work just fine. The AR-15 riffle was designed to kill, specifically human beings and, news flash it works. This relates to the "Lottery" because in the story everyone in the town likes the lottery no one has a problem with it and that is how it is with the second amendment, people have had that right there entire lives and the minute you want to take something from someone, even if they didn't use it in the first place, everyone throws a hissy-fit. To end of this thought I only have one thing to say, as long as I or any 18 year old asshole can walk into a store and buy a killing machines gun violence in the US can only get worse, and to be honest it seems like a lot of people want to keep it that way.
2. My family, specifically my dad is a huge football family. My dad has been a season ticket holder since before I was born and he played football his entire life. While growing up I knew I was going to play football when I was allowed to and when fourth grade came around I didn't skip a beat. I got my shoulder pads on strapped on my helmet and went out there. There was one problem, I was the smallest kid on the field and my coach knew it. If coach wanted to see someone get crushed at practice that day I was the first one he called on to demonstrate. Everyday I had a headache and I couldn't wait to go to bed. The I couldn't even concentrate in school because before I knew it I was getting pummeled. I knew I had to stop, I didn't want him to be disappointed in me, I mean the man goes ape shit when the Eagles give up a touchdown, what would he do if I gave up on football. When i decided to tell him he wasn't mad, and he was proud I made the right decision. Now that I'm older I'm starting to take the love of the Eagles into my own hands. Now if Eagles give up a touchdown I'm the man who goes ape shit, and I wouldn't want it any other way.

That is a great choice you made about your tradition, in the end I think you made the right choice for your own health.
